Notable Quotes #36

Happy Thursday!

Did you ever watch a movie where you laughed uncontrollably?  Maybe you heard a joke that made you laugh out loud…Maybe you looked back at something you did and you start to chuckle at yourself and just can’t believe you did that!  Well that is, in essence, what today’s scroll is about

“I will laugh at the world.”

No living creature can laugh except men.
I will smile and my digestion will improve;
I will chuckle and my burdens will be lightened;
I will laugh and my life will be lengthened
for this is the secret of life and it is now mine!

And how can I laugh when confronted with man or deed
which offends me so as to bring forth my tears and my curses?

Four words:  THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

I find this scroll to be a light-hearted yet extremely profound in its words.  Too often we (I) take life too seriously.  We need to learn to lighten up…take a chill pill…RELAX!  I have decided to take those four words and apply them in my life.  There will be times when we need to be serious, but as long as we have a balance we will be better off.  After all who wants to be around a grump all the time?!?  Are you taking life too serious?  Do you laugh at yourself enough?

Until Next Time,

Heath

Notable Quotes #35

Good Morning!

I want to start off by apologizing for my absence last week.  I have no “good” excuses therefore I will not try to come up with one!!

We have been looking at the 10 scrolls from The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.  Not only are these scrolls beneficial for the “sales” people, but for all of us in our daily lives.  Today’s scroll is no different.  I actually wish that I had read this last week and I didn’t have a very good attitude or good emotions.  I hope you take this scroll and apply it as early as today.

Today I will be the master of my emotions.
For unless my mood is right the day will be a failure.
And how will I master my emotions so that every day is a happy day and a productive one?
I will learn the secret of the ages:
“Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions;
Strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts.”

Sometimes we all have “one of those days”…we may even have “one of those weeks”, but this scroll helps us to understand that while we may not have control over the situation(s), we DO have control over our actions and our thoughts.  If we go into a situation with a bad attitude, we typically have a bad outcome.  While going into situations with a good attitude may not always translate to a good result, it often helps us to look at things objectively and from different points of views.

If we are able to control our thoughts and actions, it will show in our daily lives.  If we allow out thoughts to control us we are on a never-ending roller coaster ride.  It is inevitable…we will have good days and bad days, but as long as WE control our thoughts and not let them control us, we will lead a happier on more productive life.  Are you controlling your thoughts/emotions or are they controlling you?  Take charge and see what a difference it makes!

Until Next Time,

Heath

Notable Quotes #34

Happy Tuesday!

So far we have gone through 4 scrolls from Og Mandino’s The Greatest Salesman in the World.  Today we look at the fifth scroll.

“I will live this day as if it is my last.
I will waste not a moment mourning yesterday’s misfortunes, nor yesterday’s defeats…
for why should I throw good after bad?
Forgetting yesterday neither will I think of tomorrow.
Why should I through now after maybe?
Tomorrow lies buried with yesterday, and I will think of them no more!”

I think this is yet another scroll that I have often not thought about.  One of my personal faults is that many times I dwell too much in the past and in the what I would’ve, could’ve, should’ve done mindset.  Thinking too much or too far into the future however can be just as detrimental.  This scroll talks about focusing on today…what can I do today that will make today be the best day it can be?  In Notable Quote #22 I talked about how we all have the same amount of time as everyone else…Thomas Edison, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein all had 24 hours, just like you and me.  I believe that they had such an impact on their world, not because they were just intelligent, but because they made each day the best it could be!

We all need to learn from our past, both positive and negative.  We also need to plan and prepare for our futures, but all within reason!  Think about all the things you could accomplish if you didn’t mourn yesterday’s misfortunes or defeats or dwell on what the future holds!  Yesterday has come and gone…tomorrow may never come…so live today as if it were your last!

Until Next Time,

Heath

Notable Quotes #33

Good Afternoon/Evening!

I hope that you have enjoyed the first three scrolls from Og Mandino’s, The Greatest Salesman in the World.  I enjoy reading them because they cause me to take a step back and look at different things or ideas that I would not have thought about.  Some of these are extremely basic, but we (I) often overlook them.  Scroll four for example is one of them:

“I am natures greatest miracle.
Since the beginning of time never has there been another
with my mind, my heart, my eyes, my ears, my hands, my hair, my mouth.
Vain attempts to imitate others no longer will I make.
Instead will I place my uniqueness on display in the marketplace. I
am rare and there is value in all rarity; therefore I am valuable.

I am natures greatest miracle!”

This idea, once again, is something so simple and yet I personally fail to remember.  I am unique!  Not only that…I need to use my uniqueness in all that I do; and by doing so, my chances for success grow exponentially!!!  Who doesn’t want that?!?!  Whether you are self-employed or work for someone else, you have unique traits and ideas that no one else does.  We need to learn to capatilize on those ideas and learn what we can contribute to ourselves, others and society.

Nike has a commercial with LeBron James throughout he talks about how he tried to be just like his favorite players…he wore their jerseys, he practiced their moves, but in the end he discovered something…he couldn’t be them, he could only be LeBron.  We need to learn from others, have role models and it isn’t bad to look to others for guidance, but don’t become a clone of someone else.  Be your unique self, put that uniqueness on display and capitalize on it!  There has never been anyone like you and there never will be!!!

Until Next Time,

Heath
