Notable Quote #20

Good Afternoon!

I tell you what…Weather here in the Midwest is CRAZY!!!  Yesterday we set a record!  It was 71 degrees at noon!  However throughout the day the temperature kept falling, falling, and falling.  We went from 71 to 13 in less than 10 hours!  That’s a 58 degree drop!!!  Anyways, that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the quotes, just a little side note!  Now for the quotes.

“We have a ‘strategic’ plan. It’s called doing things.”
Herb Kelleher (co-founder of Southwest Airlines)

“I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living, or get busy dying.”
Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins – The Shawshank Redemption)

I have wanted to use these two quotes for awhile and I just didn’t know how or when.  I don’t know if today will be any different, but I couldn’t wait any longer!  I have written a few times on taking action.  Many times we sit down, get a cup of coffee (from Java Roastin’) and start laying out a plan.  Be it a plan for finances, business, family, etc. we all like to have “plans.”  Planning is good and I don’t discourage it by any means!  Planning can help us obtain our goals, however we can get so wrapped up in our planning that we don’t do anything!  I speak from experience on this one!  What have you been planning on doing.  Dieting, exercise, spending more time with family, reading, starting a side business, etc.  We only have this one life, why waste it by almost doing something.  I think it would be in everyone’s best interest to follow the words of Andy Dufresne…”Get busy living, or get busy dying.”

Until Next Time,
Heath

Notable Quote #19

Good Afternoon!

“85 percent of the time I try something I fail”
Bill Gates

“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career.  I have lost almost 300 games.
On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot…and missed.
I have failed over and over again in my life…
and that is why… I succeed.”
Michael Jordan

I read these quotes today and it made me smile…why you ask?  I looked at the individuals and realized that even Bill Gates and MJ have failed.  I mean Bill Gates is a college dropout (from Harvard I realize) and MJ was cut from his High School basketball team because there were people better than him!  These two things just blow my mind.  It also gives me hope…It should give us all hope and a realization that everybody stumbles and even falls, some of us more than others.  Failing 85% of the time would drive most of us to quit.  Not Bill Gates thankfully!  Can you imagine the world without Microsoft Windows?!  I am also glad that MJ didn’t give up when he was cut from his HS team.  I can’t picture the NBA without Air Jordan and who knows if Nike would be what it is today without him.

What does all this mumbo jumbo mean…No matter what life throws at you and no matter how many times you fail, DON’T GIVE UP!  You have your dreams and goals, don’t let failure get in the way!  Who knows, you could be the next Bill Gates or Michael Jordan!

Until Next Time,
Heath

Notable Quote #18

Happy Friday!

I hope that this email finds you happily enjoying this first FULL week of 2008.  Now on to the quotes!!!

“People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don’t know when to quit.
Most people succeed because they are determined to.”
George E. Allen

“Getting ahead in a difficult profession requires avid faith in yourself.  That is why some people with mediocre talent, but with the inner drive, go much further than people with vastly superior talent.”
Sophia Loren

Working for a Fortune 500 company you see people on a daily basis that you often wonder “How did they get that job?”  As an entrepreneur I often see businesses and their owners and wonder, “How do they pull off that business?”  Interestingly enough there always seems to be a common bond.  DETERMINATION and TENACITY!  These people just don’t know when to quit!  Quitting is NOT an option in their book.  Often times people have a tendency to rest of their past achievements or rely on their “name” to get them places in life.  I am NOT saying to not use your achievements or “name” to get your foot in the door, but don’t stop there…Keep going, make a name for yourself and create your own legacy.

What type of Determination and Tenacity do you have?  Do you have faith in yourself to succeed in whatever your endeavors are?  DON’T quit!  If you made goals for 2008, DON’T QUIT, keep going, you can do it!

Until Next Time,
Heath
